This Monday, August 9, Christian Penda Ekoka, the main political ally of the opponent Maurice Kamto is no longer.

He died Sunday August 7 in Toronto, Canada from illness.

He was one of the weighty figures of the Cameroonian political scene in recent years.

The rumors had already announced him for dead, a week ago, before a denial of the family came to cut short the speculations.

At the same time, the Cameroonians learned that Christian Penda Ekoka was ill and that he was interned in a hospital in the city of Toronto in Canada.

The economist and political ally of the opponent Maurice Kamto finally died Sunday, August 7 in the evening, announced the AGIR movement of which he was the president, Monday, August 9.

From advising the president to the AGIR movement

It was in the mid-1990s that Christian Penda Ekoka joined the ruling CPDM party.

After a few years of activism, he was appointed advisor to President Paul Biya on economic issues.

But he does not really manage to formalize the governance of the ruling system in Yaoundé and regularly expresses his discomfort at the same time as he distances himself from certain decisions of power.

The divorce with the CPDM is consummated shortly before the presidential election of 2018. He announces his rallying to the opponent Maurice Kamto.

Since then, he has walked with the president of the MRC.

He

even stayed with him in the jails

of Yaoundé central prison for nine months.

Lately, he had also quarreled with Maurice Kamto.

This time about

the management of funds dedicated to the fight against Covid-19

 as part of the Survival Cameroon initiative launched by the opponent.

Christian Penda Ekoka leaves the scene at 69 years old.
