Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones will take on the role of the iconic horror character Morticia Addams.

The streaming service Netflix announced the casting for the planned series "Wednesday", a spin-off of the morbid "Addams Family", on Monday.

Netflix also confirmed previous reports that Luis Guzmán will play the family patriarch Gomez Addams.

Tim Burton is directing the film.

Zeta-Jones and Guzmán embody the parents of the main character around whom the planned series revolves.

Offspring Wednesday is portrayed by Jenna Ortega (18, "Songbird").

The eight-episode series is about the daughter who is now studying at Nevermore Academy and discovering her superpowers there.

The "Addams Family" began as a series in the sixties.

Anjelica Huston (Morticia), Raul Julia (Gomez) and Christina Ricci (Wednesday) played in a successful theatrical version from 1991.

Zeta-Jones was last seen on screen in Feud and Queen America.

In 2003 she won the Oscar for the supporting role in the film musical "Chicago".

She acted in films like "Traffic", "Ocean's 12" and "The Legend of Zorro".
