The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship stated that the old identity card, which is currently in the possession of customers, is considered valid until its expiry date, and the new copy of the card will be issued upon request for its renewal, or when applying for a replacement for the lost or damaged old card.
Director of the Customer Happiness Department at the authority, Nasser Ahmed Al Abdouli, said that the new identity cards will be issued to all segments of society, both citizens and residents, in conjunction with the renewal process and the expiration of the old cards, or through the replacement of lost or damaged service, which is currently available.
He stressed that customers can currently use the old card with all government institutions, while the process of replacing it will coincide with the process of renewing the identity card, and there is no need for customers to go now to submit a request to replace their current cards, as long as the validity has not expired.
Al Abdouli stated in media statements that the authority is constantly keen to enhance and develop its products, services, and operations, and from this standpoint, it has launched the new generation of the identity card with high-quality features, and the goal is to achieve the vision of the UAE, by developing a system for the quality of population registry data, based on the best Global practices in managing the personal identity system.
He explained that one of the most important characteristics of the new generation of the identity card is to provide it with advanced technologies that reduce security risks as a result of forgery and forgery in the use process, and added fields and identification codes, such as the data of the employer, the head of the family, the job title for residents, as well as the identity card issuer, And enhanced protection for the data that is not visible on the card, with the aim of strengthening the electronic link system between institutions to ensure the up-to-dateness of data, and to enhance the process of interconnection and integration.
The new card also has advanced technical and technological features, including activating the contactless reading feature, which contributes to enhancing health security for members of the UAE community, especially with the frequent use of the identity card in various fields in government and semi-governmental institutions, as well as in the private sector.
He pointed out that one of the most important advantages of the new card is the printing of names with a laser technology, so that they are engraved on the card, which contributes to preserving its quality and quality, as well as enhancing the vital characteristics and fingerprints of individuals present in the old card.
Al-Abdouli stressed that the card issuance process and procedures are the same as in the past, and have not changed, as it is possible to apply through the same available channels, whether through the smart application, the authority’s website, or traditional channels such as typing offices and customer happiness centers.
He stressed that the fees for issuing the new card have not changed, as well as the validity of the card as it was previously determined, and it is for citizens of five or 10 years, and for residents it is linked to the length of stay, whether two or three years, or according to the period of golden residency, five or 10 years.
