According to information from France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, a mountaineer died this Sunday in Chamonix (Haute-Savoie).

Having embarked on the ascent of Mont-Blanc, this man who has not yet been identified was moving alone in the Goûter corridor when he unscrewed and fell fatally.

A witness who was in the area alerted the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie (PGHM) platoon, which triggered the intervention.

"The weather conditions did not allow an intervention by helicopter this morning", had initially indicated the mountain rescue services.

The body of the climber was finally recovered later in the day by the men of the PGHM, then transported to Chamonix.

An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of his death.
