“Relations between India and Russia are rooted in history, characterized by mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation.

This strategic partnership has successfully passed the test of time and invariably receives the support of the peoples of both countries, ”the embassy said.

It is noted that on the morning of August 9, 1971, the Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation between the USSR and the Republic of India was signed in Delhi.

“This document consolidated the long-term experience of relations between the two countries, outlined the fundamental principles that govern them, the main areas, directions and goals of cooperation,” the diplomatic mission said.

In the document, the USSR and India declared that between them "there will be lasting peace and friendship," and also that they will "build their relations on the basis of the principles of respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the other side, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefits ".

“The 1971 Peace and Friendship Treaty was a watershed moment in relations between India and the Soviet Union.

It was an expression of the common goals of the two nations, as well as a program to strengthen regional and global peace and security, ”the Indian Embassy said.

Earlier it was reported that in the updated Russian National Security Strategy, the development of a strategic partnership with China and India was named a priority of Russia in foreign policy.
