The German Defense Minister commented on developments in Afghanistan, and she is right.

The fact that there is no majority in Germany for a new military operation is probably also true.

So from a distance one will follow the progress of the Taliban's offensive and the expansion of their territory with lamentation, regret and helplessness.

Yes, the whole thing is no surprise, it has been predicted exactly the same, also by the American military: the United States and the other NATO countries are withdrawing their soldiers, and the Taliban will return to power -

regime change

announced.

This is the inevitable consequence of the Biden administration's decision to end America's "longest war" now.

On the one hand, you can't blame her for that.

The Americans have long since grown tired of this war, the government's priorities are domestic policy, priority is given to the “reconstruction” of one's own country;

which, by the way, Obama saw the same way years ago.

On the other hand, however, the Afghan population has been handed over to the resurgent Taliban. It is cynical to say that Afghans have the right to determine their own future. They will not be able to do that, because the new masters alone will determine. To speak of diplomacy now is window dressing. Why should the Taliban agree to a diplomatic solution when they are about to conquer the country?
