She hid 8 kilos of cocaine in a secret pocket in her suitcase

$5,000 leads a foreign visitor to 10 years in prison

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a foreign visitor to 10 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 dirhams, who brought 8.2 kilograms of cocaine in a secret pocket inside her travel bag.

Investigations by the Public Prosecution indicated that the accused was coming from a South American country, and when she arrived at Dubai Airport in Terminal 3, the Dubai Customs inspection officers suspected her travel bag.

And when the bag was searched by the customs inspector, a secret pocket was found inside a transparent plastic wrap containing a white powder that has the characteristic appearance of cocaine, and weighing more than eight kilograms.

By bringing the accused to the General Department of Narcotics Control in Dubai Police, she confessed to bringing and possessing drugs with the aim of handing them over to a person in the country, noting that she was aware of the nature of the substance she possessed and deliberately brought it to the country in exchange for $5,000.

In the investigations of the Public Prosecution, the Customs Inspector said that the incident occurred while she was at work, as one of her colleagues suspected the accused, and referred her to her, so she searched the bag to find the coil hidden in a secret pocket.

For its part, the Criminal Court re-adapted the case, and canceled the charge of possession with intent to promote, given that the accused had not been caught trafficking, promoting, using or abusing narcotic substances, and it is necessary to have the intention of offering drugs to people until the purpose of promotion is achieved.

The court affirmed that it was satisfied with the evidence that the accused brought and possessed the narcotic substance in other than the authorized cases, and accordingly sentenced her to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of 50 thousand dirhams, and deportation after the execution of the penalty.
