The Tokyo Olympics are over. As tradition requires, the governor of the Japanese capital, Yuriko Koike, presented the flag on Sunday evening to Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, who then passed it on to Anne Hidalgo, mayor of the next host city, Paris. “

And now I must mark the end of this most complex Olympic trip to Tokyo. I declare the Games of the XXXII Olympiad closed

”, concluded the president of the governing body of this great meeting.

A few hours earlier, the Frenchman Thomas Pesquet and his Japanese teammate Aki Hoshide had preceded the officials, by sending their own symbolic ceremony on social networks, aboard the International Space Station!

The Normand will also have contributed to the launch clip of the XXXIII Olympiad, with the saxophone that has accompanied him since his arrival in the ISS, to perform

La Marseillaise

.

In the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, the ceremony began with the entry of the flags of the 206 delegations, followed by the traditional parade of athletes who competed in these Games.

The artistic sequence lasted about ten minutes.

It included a piece composed by the artist Woodkid, which will be in concert in Paris to definitively mark the transmission of witnesses.

At the end of the evening, the Olympic cauldron, lit on July 23, went out, while in Paris, festivities with the French medalists took place at the Trocadero.

The organizers of the 2024 Olympics wanted to hoist a giant flag on the Eiffel Tower, but the weather conditions did not allow it.

We will have nevertheless seen President Macron lend himself to the handover clip up there.
