Iraq seeks financing for the electrical interconnection project with the Gulf countries

An Iraqi spokesman stated that Iraq is seeking financing from the World Bank to implement the electrical interconnection project with the Gulf countries.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, told the Iraqi newspaper, Al-Sabah, in its issue issued yesterday, that Iraq is seeking from the General Electricity Transmission Company in the southern region to discuss with the World Bank to finance what is entrusted to the Iraqi side in implementing the electrical interconnection line between Iraq and the countries The Gulf, which extends for 80 kilometers inside Iraqi territory.

He stated that this financing will enable Iraq to fulfill all its obligations, and to launch this line inside Iraqi territory, with 100% financing from the World Bank.

He explained that this line is supposed to be completed in its first phase in the summer of 2022 with a capacity of 500 megawatts for Basra Governorate, and there is seriousness on both sides to complete this vital project.

Al-Abadi said that the total length of the Iraqi-Gulf electrical interconnection line is 300 km, pointing out that this strategic line will connect the Kuwaiti Al-Zawra station in the Iraqi Al-Faw region.

The Iraqi Finance Minister, Ali Allawi, had recently announced the negotiations conducted by the Iraqi government with the World Bank, to obtain a loan of three to four billion dollars, to finance projects in Iraq.
