Rakshith Doriswamygoda, who was not 17 years old when doctors diagnosed him with a rare and violent form of abdominal cancer, had been suffering from severe back pain for several months.

He visited a hospital in Bangalore, when medical examinations revealed that he had a DSRCT, which doctors there could not treat.

The patient was referred to Dr. Yasser Akmal, a specialist in surgical oncologist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, for a life-saving surgery, which he reached in March 2021.

The team of surgeons at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi worked for more than 16 hours, removing more than 50 cancerous tumors from his abdomen, including two large tumors around the pancreas and in the pelvic area near the bladder and rectum. After all visible tumors were removed, the treating medical team used one dose of chemotherapy drugs They put it directly into his stomach to destroy any remaining cancer cells, to prevent them from developing into other tumors.

After this successful surgery, Rakshith returned to his home in India where he is following up his health condition with the local doctors who provide him medical care.
