The Israeli army attacked targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.

In response to fire balloons sent from the Palestinian Territory towards Israel, air strikes were carried out against Hamas positions, the Israeli armed forces said.

Fighter planes attacked "a military infrastructure" and a position for launching missiles.

Reports of possible injuries from the air strikes were initially not available.

According to the Israeli fire brigade, four fires had previously broken out as a result of the fire balloons in the Eshkol region near the border with the Gaza Strip.

The last time the Israeli army bombed targets in the Palestinian coastal area two weeks ago in response to fire balloons.

The most recent mutual attacks, however, were nowhere near as large as the 11-day military escalation in May.

This was ended by a ceasefire brokered by Egypt.

The Israeli army has also attacked targets of the Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon in the past few days.

It reacted by its own account to rocket fire by the Iran-controlled militia on Israeli territory.
