02 August 2018 The number of people killed in the wave of violence in Nicaragua that began on April 18 rises to 317 people, including 21 policemen and 23 minors, the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights reports.

According to the entity, the information was verified by the staff of the Special Control Mechanism for Nicaragua (MESENI), which is deployed in that Central American country.



In an official note, the commission asked the Nicaraguan government to "effectively respect its international human rights obligations". The Commissioner Rapporteur of the Commission for Nicaragua, Antonia Urrejola urged "the State of Nicaragua to promptly and seriously investigate each of these crimes" with "an updated, reliable and transparent record of all deaths".
