Thursday, a young bull of the Prim'Holstein breed had escaped the vigilance of its owner just before entering the slaughterhouse of Feurs.

The several hundred kilogram animal had traveled 800 meters to the city center, where firefighters were able to put it to sleep with a hypodermic rifle and then capture it.

A pot to reimburse the slaughterhouse

The anesthetic used renders the animal's meat unfit for consumption for 35 days. A reprieve taken advantage of by defenders of the animal cause who launched a petition calling to "save this courageous cow" which collected more than 22,000 signatures and opened a kitty to collect 1,000 euros as reimbursement for the slaughterhouse.
