The Canadians became Olympic football champions for the first time by overthrowing Sweden on penalties (1-1, 3 tab 2), after falling 1-0 on Friday in Yokohama.

Sweden's Stina Blackstenius scored her fifth goal of the competition in the 34th (1-0).

Jessie Fleming equalized on the penalty for Canada in the 67th (1-1).

Both teams used overtime and a long penalty shootout that emerged victorious for the Canadians, bronze medalists in 2012 and 2016.
