Forest fires in Turkey continue for the tenth day

Turkish emergency crews continued their attempts to put out the worst fires in the country in years for the tenth consecutive day on Friday.

The Presidential Communications Office said today that 12 fires are still burning and out of control.

The worst fires are burning along the southern and western coastline of Turkey in the regions of Antalya, Marmaris, Bodrum and Milas.

Local authorities said many suburbs were surrounded by flames in the evening in Milas, but residents had already been evacuated from their homes.

The fires there are burning out of control.

More than two hundred wildfires broke out last Wednesday across many states in the worst fire the country has witnessed in 13 years, and many of the fires are still burning with unprecedented intensity.

According to estimates, at least eight people were killed and the fires destroyed at least 100,000 hectares of forests and fields.

In Marmaris alone, the local authorities said, more than 16,000 hectares of fire has been destroyed.
