06 August 2021 Six people died in the crash on the seaplane they were traveling on, the US Coast Guard announces. Rescuers received the signal from an emergency beacon about 13 kilometers north of Ketchikan. The Coast Guard helicopter located the wreck about three hours later. Two divers, dropped from the helicopter, found no survivors. The seaplane was carrying the pilot and five passengers and took off from Misty Fiords National Monument Park. The passengers were tourists on Holland America Line's Nieuw Amsterdam cruise ship, the company tweeted that the one underway was an independent excursion not operated by the cruise line.
