Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed declared on Thursday (August 5th) that there was "no back engine" possible following his decision last month to fire the government, freeze the work of Parliament and take over the responsibilities. executive powers, a move that the opposition denounced as a coup.

Speaking in a video released by his services, Kaïs Saïed also rejected calls for the opening of talks on the political crisis, declaring that there was "no dialogue except with honest people", excluding any discussion with what he called "cancer cells".

These comments come after the Islamist Ennahda party, the main political force in Parliament, today called for the opening of a dialogue, eleven days after the head of state's unexpected announcements.

The party's Advisory Council, meeting Wednesday in extraordinary session to discuss the situation, stressed in a statement Thursday, "the need for the Ennahda movement to conduct a deep self-criticism of its policies."

He pledged to "carry out the necessary revisions and renewals of his programs and the governing structures" of the party.

Kaïs Saïed has still not appointed a new prime minister, nor announced measures to end the state of emergency or announced his long-term intentions.

France, along with the United States, last week called for the rapid formation of a government.
