The man very seriously injured Wednesday evening by the shooting of a police officer during a road check in Marseille died of his injuries, we learned Thursday from a police source.

According to the same source, the traffic control on Wednesday followed a first refusal to comply on Tuesday evening during which an assistant police officer was slightly hit by the vehicle.

On Wednesday, the vehicle was spotted parked and the assistant police officer confirmed that it was indeed the car that had hit it the day before, according to the same police source.

Two investigations opened

The officials therefore approached the vehicle to check it, but the driver backed up and struck a police officer.

While he was making a new maneuver to leave, a peacekeeper used his weapon at the door and reached the driver, again according to this police source.

The firefighters intervened with the driver in cardiopulmonary arrest on their arrival.

Two investigations were opened: one for “attempted homicide” entrusted to the judicial police and the second for the use of the weapon to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).

The facts occurred in the 3rd arrondissement of Marseille, in the district of La-Belle-de-Mai.
