He noted that "communication between people, of course, is greatly helped by the agreement of the heads of state on the resumption of direct flights between Russian cities and the Egyptian resorts of the Red Sea."

“After serious preparation from both sides, the first regular flights to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh begin on August 9th.

Moreover, if the situation with the pandemic permits, their intensity will grow rapidly, ”the diplomat said.

Borisenko said that “it was not easy for Russia to take this step after our passenger plane, taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh, crashed in 2015 as a result of a terrorist attack”.

“However, we are convinced that in recent years, airports and resorts in Egypt have dramatically increased security measures.

Therefore, we expect that Russian tourists who remember the traditional Egyptian hospitality well and miss the Red Sea very much will expect a safe and comfortable stay.

This will open up tremendous opportunities for interaction in the tourism sector, ”the ambassador added.

Russia has resumed flights with Egyptian resorts since August 9, the operational headquarters for combating coronavirus infection said.

According to the decision of the headquarters, flights Moscow - Hurghada and Moscow - Sharm el-Sheikh will be operated five times a week on each route.

In early July, Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled a decree that prohibited Russian airlines from flying to Egyptian resorts.

Vice-President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Yuri Barzykin, in an interview with URA.RU, commented on this message.
