The number of Covid-19 tests exploded last week with more than 4 million tests carried out, according to data from the Directorate of Research, Studies, Assessment and Statistics (Drees), made public Thursday.

"The 26-40 year olds are becoming the age category where the tests are the most numerous".

The number of Covid-19 tests - RT-PCR or antigen - has exploded last week with more than 4 million tests carried out, surpassing the peaks reached before Christmas 2020 and during the third wave in April, according to management data of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), released Thursday.

"26-40 years, age category where the tests are the most numerous

"Between July 26 and August 1, 2021, 4,118,800 RT-PCR and antigenic tests were validated (including 54.9% antigenic tests), against 3,607,400 (including 52.4% antigenic tests) the week previous, an increase of 511,300 tests of SARS-CoV-2 linked to the gradual deployment of the health pass ", detailed the Drees.

The first measures making necessary the "health pass" (total vaccination, negative Covid-19 test or certificate of recovery) to access places hosting at least 50 people (museums, performance halls, sports establishments, amusement parks, etc. ..), entered into force on July 21.

These measures should extend to coffee shops, fairs and exhibitions, planes, trains and long-distance coaches, as well as to medical establishments from August 9, after the long-awaited decision of the Constitutional Council on Thursday.

According to DREES data, "26-40 year olds become the age category where tests are most numerous", "well ahead of 41-65 year olds who caused the highest volume of tests until early July" .

Despite an increasing number of tests performed, the lead times for obtaining results remain stable. These are obtained in less than 24 hours.
