Chinanews, August 5th. According to the WeChat official account of the Greek "China Greek Times", on August 3 local time, a wildfire broke out in the Varybobi mountain forest area in the northern part of the Greek capital of Athens, and thousands of nearby residents were evacuated.

At present, the fire has caused at least 6 people to be admitted to hospital for respiratory problems, another firefighter was injured, and some houses, cars and factories were damaged.

On August 4, local time, Mr. Qi, an overseas Chinese living near the fire site, told reporters about the scene of the fire when he was interviewed by China-Greece Times and China-Greece.com.

He said that the high-temperature weather in Greece has been going on for many days, and it is easy to cause wildfires.

At first, he found that there seemed to be a mountain fire on the mountain far away from home. Because of the distance and the frequent occurrence of mountain fires recently, he didn't care too much.

However, this wild fire spread rapidly with the help of the wind, and it soon burned to the vicinity of the house.

Subsequently, the visible fire and smoke caused anxiety among the surrounding residents, and some people began to evacuate spontaneously.

Immediately afterwards, some sporadic sparks drifted into the residential area, and some trees in the courtyard of the residence were set alight.

Mr. Qi recalled that, judging from the situation near his home, the worst time of the fire was around 18:00 on the 3rd. The air was full of smoke and burnt smell, even if the doors and windows of the home were closed, a strong burnt smell could be smelled. .

At 1 am on the 4th, the residential building three or four streets away from Mr. Qi's house was also burned. Fortunately, the fire was not big.

It is understood that the Greek authorities urgently organized rescue teams to rush to the fire, but as night fell and visibility decreased, the firefighting aircraft temporarily stopped operations, leaving only ground firefighters to extinguish the fire.

After fighting all night by 500 firefighters, the fire situation in the northern residential areas of Athens has been basically controlled, and only some sporadic wildfires are still going on.
