China News Agency, Harbin, August 4 (Reporter Wang Nina) Heilongjiang Honghe National Nature Reserve announced on the 4th that the reserve announced the international migration routes of two oriental white storks wearing satellite trackers, which were tracked by satellite for the first time. The technology discovered that the Oriental White Stork went to the west coast of South Korea to overwinter.

The Oriental White Stork is a first-class protected animal in China and an internationally endangered bird.

At present, the two main breeding areas of the oriental white stork in the world are the Sanjiang Plain in the Heilongjiang River Basin and the Russian Far East.

Among them, the Heilongjiang Honghe National Nature Reserve is an internationally important wetland. It was awarded the title of "Hometown of the Oriental White Stork" by the China Wildlife Conservation Association. It is an important breeding habitat for rare and endangered birds such as the Oriental White Stork.

In 2019, the oriental white stork in the artificial nest in the reserve hatched two young birds. The staff of the reserve put on satellite trackers and metal leg loops for them. The number of the first tracker is HHNR034, and the number of the second tracker is HHNR033.

On August 4 this year, the reserve announced the migration route map of the two eastern white storks: On August 31, 2019, the two eastern white storks left the Heilongjiang Honghe National Nature Reserve and went to the nearby farm management area. Foraging in the rice fields, it moved south from the Naoli River National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang on November 3 and 4, 2019.

Among them, the old man moved to the Taean Coast National Park in Taean County, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea on November 8, 2019, and the second child moved to Tianjin Beidagang for the winter.

The boss overwintered in South Korea and stayed for 121 days. He left South Korea on March 9, 2020 and traveled north to the Heilongjiang River Basin. On November 5, 2020, the Oriental White Stork began to travel south to Poyang Lake for overwintering.

"This is the first time we have discovered the Oriental White Stork to live through the winter on the west coast of South Korea through satellite tracking technology since we carried out the Oriental White Stork ring log and satellite tracking research, indicating that the migration route of the Oriental White Stork is expanding." Heilongjiang Honghe National Nature Reserve Management Said Zhu Baoguang, head of the scientific research and publicity section of the bureau.

At present, these two oriental white storks have not participated in breeding activities in the wetlands along the Ussuli River in the Sino-Russian boundary river in Heilongjiang Province.

The Honghe National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang has carried out satellite tracking of the Oriental White Stork in 2015. This provides data and information for the in-depth study of the reproduction, foraging and migration of the Oriental White stork and other ecological learning. The population protection of the oriental white stork has important scientific significance.
