Middle East An attack on a tanker managed by an Israeli company leaves two dead in Oman
British maritime security agency UKMTO said a "possible hijacking" of a ship was taking place on Tuesday off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, about 60 nautical miles (110 kilometers) from the city of Fujairah.
Maritime security analysts from the firms Dryad Global and Aurora Intelligence identified the ship in
distress
as the Asphalt Princess, flying the Panamanian flag.
The MarineTraffic website identifies it as a tar and bitumen cargo ship heading to
Sohar,
a port city on the northern coast of Oman.
This incident occurs five days after an attack on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman that left two dead, attributed to Iran by several Western governments, including the United States and Israel.
This ship attacked on Thursday, the Mercer Street, arrived on Monday night in the offshore anchorage area of Fujairah, one of the seven members of the federation of the United Arab Emirates, a neighboring country of Oman.
The UKMTO, under the British Navy, recommended "extreme caution" to ships sailing in the area.
