Mali: a road accident kills 37 in the center of the country

A traffic accident occurred at the end of the morning on the Bamako-Ségou axis between a passenger bus and a freight truck.

The provisional toll is 37 dead as well as many serious injuries according to the services of the Ministry of Transport.

The Ministers of Transport and Security attended the scene.

Thirty-seven people were killed and several others injured on Tuesday in a traffic accident near the city of Ségou, in the center of the country, the Malian government said.

This is the provisional toll of a road traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday in Zambougou, 20 km from Ségou,

 ”the government wrote on Twitter, without specifying the circumstances.

On images posted on social networks, we can see half of a blue-white-red coach in the colors of the company Air Niono gutted from the front to half of the vehicle.

The rear windows are completely shattered, which leaves little doubt as to the extreme violence of the impact with the freight transport truck.

The two machines have also finished their races projected on the side of the road.

According to details provided by Douba Dembélé, an agent of the town hall of Ségou reached by phone and who went to the scene, the right front tire of the jumbo would have punctured in traffic.

This incident caused the truck to deviate from its path, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and the fatal collision with the bus.

The assistance of elements of the civil protection made it possible to take care of the wounded who were transported to the Nianakoro Fomba hospital in Ségou and to extract the remains from the rubble.

Dispatched to the scene to observe the damage, the Minister of Security, that of Transport as well as the governor of the region went to the bedside of the wounded as well as to the families of the deceased.
