After Sisi's statements

Egypt: an immediate study to increase the price of a loaf of subsidized bread

The Egyptian Minister of Supply, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, said that the ministry will start an immediate study to direct President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to increase the price of a subsidized loaf of bread.

Seventy-two million citizens in Egypt have the right to obtain subsidized bread daily, so that each citizen gets 5 loaves per day, at a price of 5 piasters per loaf, while its actual cost is 65 piasters, with a weight of 90 grams per loaf.

Al-Moselhi said, in statements to the Egyptian newspaper, Al-Watan, that the matter will be studied and presented to the Council of Ministers as soon as possible, stressing that the state is working to reformulate the support bill to include all aspects.

The minister added that school feeding for students at about 7 or 8 billion is inevitable, and therefore the process of reformulating the support bill is necessary.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said today, Tuesday, that the time has come to increase the price of a subsidized loaf of bread.

Al-Sisi added: "The time is coming when Abu Khamsa made a loaf of bread (piasters), this increases his wish. Someone tell me, let this talk to the Prime Minister, to the Minister of Supply, who is the one who removes it.. No.. I'm taking it away in front of my country and in front of my people."

"It is not reasonable to pay 20 loaves for the price of a cigarette," he said during his speech at the opening of a food production facility.

Al-Sisi continued: “We cannot boil it as strong as it stops us with sixty or 65 piasters, but this matter must stop.”

He added: "There is no need to prove the same in this way over a period of 20 or 30 years, and we say that this number is not touched."

The price of a loaf of subsidized bread is currently 0.05 Egyptian pounds ($0.0032).
