Monarchy The Prosecutor's Office finds it difficult to file a complaint against Juan Carlos I a year after his departure
This Tuesday, just one year after the departure of Juan Carlos I from
Spain
, and coinciding with the meeting between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and Felipe VI in
Mallorca
, the minority partner of the Executive has redoubled its attacks against the monarchy, this time from within the Council of Ministers itself. The leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has described the situation that the
Royal House
has been experiencing for a year as a
"serious democratic anomaly"
and has considered that the monarchy, during this time, has chained "scandals" of " corruption and impunity ".
A few words issued from within the Executive that have not been condemned or censored by
Moncloa
. "The Government and its position is being represented by the president with his office with the King," Isabel Rodríguez, Government spokesperson, has limited herself to remarking, after being questioned at the end of the
Council of Ministers
for the expressions of Belarra. "Our recognition of the current head of state is in that orientation that the Royal House is giving in terms of transparency and exemplaryity."
In this sense, and minutes later, Sánchez himself, from Mallorca, has valued "very positively" the "commitment", the "updating" and the "transparency" that has characterized the reign of Felipe VI, but he has not entered into give an opinion on the criticisms made from the
purple
wing
of the Executive that he directs.
Belarra, for its part, has also charged against his government partner, the PSOE, as one of the parties that stops the attempts of various formations to investigate the Emeritus in the Upper House in the Table of the Congress of Deputies: "Who They systematically prevent Parliament, the seat of popular sovereignty, from taking action on the matter and learning about the allegedly illicit activities of the Crown, they are calling into question the very principle of parliamentary monarchy. "
"Each one is responsible for their opinions," the Executive spokeswoman has settled on the reflections exercised by Belarra.
"For a republican horizon"
Opinions that once again put on the table the differences within the Executive regarding the relationship with the monarchy.
Podemos has accused the Socialists on several occasions in recent months of belonging to the monarchical bloc by preventing the processing of initiatives to investigate the Emeritus.
In fact, with her words, the Minister of Social Rights has reactivated the theses defended months ago by Podemos and other partners of the Government, when, as a result of the "judicialization" of the Catalan independence process, it was defended that in Spain it does not occur " democratic normality ".
"The fact that Juan Carlos de Borbón lives in luxury in Abu Dhabi while someone who makes a song critical of the monarchy is criminally prosecuted puts into question, in addition to freedom of expression, the principle of justice and equality before the law ", has reflected through social networks the holder of Social Rights of the Executive.
Thus, and given the anniversary, Belarra has taken the opportunity to emphasize what her party's commitment is: "We can continue working so that democracy reaches the Head of State and for a republican horizon for Spain, as a project of democratic deepening, of economic modernization and unity based on the recognition of our multinationality ".
Asked about the "road map" that President Sánchez announced in December 2020 to renew the monarchy based on "transparency and exemplarity" -the same terms that the government spokesperson used this Tuesday- Rodríguez has specified that today still without significant progress.
