The Nantes-Bordeaux line reopened to travelers on Saturday, after nineteen months of work, SNCF announced in a press release.

Started in January 2020, the modernization phase of the La Roche-sur-Yon-La Rochelle section was completed on July 18, before the official reopening on July 31.

Intercity and TER trains can now travel there at a speed of 130 km / h, instead of 110 km / h.

Concretely, the operation reduces the journey time for trains between Nantes and Bordeaux to 4:07 (4:13 in the Nantes-Bordeaux direction), i.e. a gain of 41 minutes compared to the previous situation.

The line is run daily by three Intercity round trips and one TER round trip (approximately 1.7 million passengers per year) and several freight trains.

The project, amounting to 155.5 million euros (studies and works), was financed under the State-Region plan contracts of Pays-de-la-Loire and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

“This improvement is a first step in progress with a view to modernizing the infrastructure south of La Rochelle,” adds SNCF.
