According to veterinarian Madeleine Moureau, it happens once a year that dogs must be operated on after eating food prepared with various dangerous objects or substances.

And it happens in different places around Gothenburg.

- We have seen sausages with nails in them several times before.

Glycol poisoning is also quite common.

You pour it on meat or in bread, says Madeleine Moureau, who is also head of the clinic at Blå Stjärnan's animal hospital in Gothenburg.

Contact a veterinarian

Madeleine Moureau urges dog owners to pay attention:

- If your dog shows symptoms and vomits and feels unwell, you should always call a veterinarian and see if you need to come in, says Madeleine Moureau.

How can I as a dog owner protect my dog?

- Keep an eye on your dog and see what it ingests when it is out.

Keeping the dog on a leash can be an option.

And if you have a dog that eats everything it sees, a muzzle can be an option in some places, says Madeleine Moureau.

In the clip below, you will hear the vet's concrete tips on how to best open the dog's mouth.
