Mobile data from July show that we traveled about nine percent more between different counties in the country than we did during the same period last year. There is still a long way to go until travel is at the same levels as before the pandemic, but there are some places where activity has already returned to normal.

- On Gotland, they have had a large upswing in travelers, with 32 percent more trips to the island, says Elin Allison, head of strategy for data analysis at Telia.

She works at Telia Crowd Insights to map behaviors and travel patterns in society using anonymous mobile data from Sweden's population.

- There have been about as many on Gotland this year as before the pandemic, she says.

The mountains are more popular now than before the pandemic

Another place where many have traveled this summer is the Swedish mountains. According to Telia's data, there are now more people traveling there than there were before the pandemic broke out.

- The mountains, and specifically Härjedalen, have increased. If you compare the activity with July 2019, it is now a full 17 percent higher in Härjedalen.

The Swedes' trips to the mountains were something that was noticed already last year, and the trend continues.

- The pandemic seems to have made us want to holiday in the Swedish mountains, more specifically Härjedalen, says Elin Allison.
