On Sunday, Tunisian President Kais Saied arrived at Habib Bourguiba Street in the center of the capital for a surprise tour, to listen to the complaints of the citizens who greeted him with slogans and chants in support.

Then he went to the Ministry of Interior building.

The Tunisian president pledged to confront illegal immigration and human smuggling networks by sea from the Tunisian coast, warning against "attempts to politically exploit the file in this delicate circumstance the country is going through."

The president said in front of security and army leaders that human smuggling networks will be confronted, whether in Tunisia or in the north, and that what happened in 2011 will not be repeated.

The president implicitly refers to the large-scale migrations that followed the events of the revolution and the fall of the regime of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 when 20,000 Tunisian immigrants arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa alone within days.

Today, 30 Tunisian national figures submitted an open letter to national and international public opinion, affirming their support for the Tunisian president's response to the people's demands, and not considering his recent decisions a coup against the constitution or legitimacy, calling for legal accountability for the outlaws without any redress or revenge.

The signatories also expressed their total rejection of any settlement with those responsible for corruption.
