01 August 2021 "We are working with our partners to consider next steps and are consulting with governments in the region and beyond on an appropriate response, which will be forthcoming."

Thus the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in the statement in which he accused Iran of being behind the attack conducted Thursday with a drone on an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, in which two people were killed.

Israel and the UK had also already accused Tehran, which denied its involvement.

MV Mercer Street, an oil tanker, is operated by London-based Zodiac Maritime, owned by Israeli shipping billionaire Eyal Ofer. The company reported that the attack killed two crew members, one from the UK and one from Romania, but did not report what happened in the attack. Free of cargo, the tanker was on its way from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

The attack, not claimed, took place in the northeast of the Omani island of Masirah, over 300 kilometers southeast of the Oman capital, Muscat.
