- It is important that we make use of the knowledge.

Otherwise it will disappear, says Sven Jensén who is chairman of Skåne's Hembygdsförbund.

He sees this type of activity as a way to engage more people of different ages to take part in the history and tradition of the local area.

- Others show off their farms, have folk dances and such.

But the homeland movement is multifaceted.

It is important to show it, he says.

Ancient technology still relevant

For many, it is an exciting and useful method of mowing grass with a scythe.

- There are more modern manicures today.

But with the scythe you can access the grass on small rocky fields.

There it is unbeatable, says Sven Jensén.

And for some of the course participants, it is important not to rely too much on modernities.

- I live in the country and think it's nice to cut grass with a scythe.

If a machine breaks down, I need the help of someone else to repair it.

With the scythe, I experience a feeling of power, says Olov Källgran who participated in the mowing course.
