The German Alexander Zverev was crowned Olympic tennis champion in men's singles by beating the Russian competing under a neutral banner in the final Karen Khachanov (25th worldwide), 6-3, 6-1, Sunday in Tokyo.

The world N.5, striker of Novak Djokovic in the semi-final, brings to Germany its first gold medal in tennis since Steffi Graff in 1988. In the men's category the best performance was that of Tommy Haas, who left with the medal Sydney Silver in 2000.
