Development Minister Gerd Müller calls for more corona vaccine to be given to developing countries.

"The dispensing of excess vaccination doses is the fastest way to advance the global vaccination campaign," said the CSU politician to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

Müller recalled the federal government's promise to give poorer countries at least 30 million doses of vaccine by the end of the year.

"We should gradually increase this amount because there is now enough vaccine available in Germany," he said.

Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had already announced in mid-July that Germany would give more vaccines to other countries in addition to the 30 million vaccine doses that had already been announced.

Extreme differences in access to vaccines

Müller said some countries had secured up to eight doses of vaccine per capita.

"You can give up part of it without any problems, so that all developing countries have access to vaccines." He warned that the world must not be divided into countries that can recover quickly and economically with high vaccination rates and those that remain vulnerable to the virus .

So far, less than two percent of people in Africa have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
