“The UK is working with its international partners to develop an agreed response to this unacceptable attack,” Raab said.

He called the attack on Mercer Street "illegal and violent" and noted that the UK concluded the attack was from Iran.

"We believe that this attack was deliberate and purposeful and is a clear violation of international law by Iran," the British Foreign Minister said.

According to Raab, "It is highly likely that Iran attacked the Mercer Street tanker using one or more unmanned aerial vehicles."

At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzade said that accusations of Tehran's involvement in the attack have no basis.

Earlier it became known that the tanker Mercer Street belonging to the Japanese company under the flag of Liberia was attacked in the Arabian Sea.

Information about the incident, allegedly related to piracy, was confirmed by the London office of the company - operator of the ship Zodiac Maritime.
