He fabricated the scenario of her suicide, and “Dubai’s Appeal” punishes him with life

A man drowns his girlfriend to treat her from the jinn

The Dubai Court of Appeals sentenced a Canadian man to life imprisonment and deportation for killing his girlfriend by drowning her in a bathtub, claiming that she was possessed by jinn and that he was treating her, after initially concocting a scenario to cast the crime as suicide.

The Public Prosecution’s investigations into the incident revealed that a long relationship developed between the accused and the victim, and he was very jealous of her and chasing her, in addition to that he had multiple women’s relationships, which caused frequent disagreements between them, and her attempt to separate from him, but he was holding on to him and chasing her.

She stated that the accused had spread in the period prior to committing the crime on March 26 last year that she was haunted by the jinn, and he is the only one who is able to treat her from demonic possession and asked her friends to convince her of that, and when he found no benefit in that, he resolved to kill her and quietly planned for that,

and on the day of the crime He took cannabis, then assaulted her severely, causing her several injuries to her face, neck and different areas of her body. Believing that this situation would entrench her suicide scenario, he called for an ambulance.

The victim's resistance to the accused resulted in injuries to his forearms and fingers, and he was presented to a specialized psychiatry committee at Rashid Hospital, and it was confirmed that he did not suffer from any mental or psychological diseases that affect his will or awareness on the date of the incident.

The victim’s neighbor in Al-Nayah said that she used to hear a quarrel between the victim and the accused about two weeks before the crime. Speaking in Arabic, while the woman was begging him not to kill her, the sound of the crash repeated, and phrases with religious connotations, so she called the police, then spoke to the security guard.

When she returned to her apartment, she heard a crash and the victim was telling the accused, “You hurt me.” She returned again to the security guard, who accompanied her and asked her to stay in her apartment and would talk to them, and the victim was telling the accused that the police would attend.

For his part, a witness from Dubai Police said that a report was received about the incident, so he moved there, found the accused and asked him what happened, and he decided that the victim committed suicide, and expressed his discomfort with the police and ambulance procedures, and he was asking paramedics to perform artificial respiration for her, but they told him that she had died He had been alive for hours, and he seemed to be in an abnormal state, as if he was under the influence of drugs.

He added that he interrogated the accused on the second day after he regained consciousness, and decided that he had had an affair with the victim for about three years, and noticed strange behavior on her in the recent period, and that she was haunted by the jinn, so he read the legal spell on her, and he was watching videos on how to be treated from Touch.

The accused indicated that he did this to her on the day of the incident, then punched her in the stomach, pulled her hair and fixed her hand, then went with her to take a shower, and left the bathtub and left her alone. In vain, he called the police, attributing the injuries on his hands that had occurred while he was trying to pin her down to hit the jinn, and when he was trying to pull her by her hair.

The forensic report confirmed that the death occurred in a criminal manner by drowning the victim in the swimming pool of her room's bathroom, and all injuries contradict the accused's claim that he was trying to save her from drowning.

The accused appealed to the Court of Appeal against the ruling of the Court of First Instance, but the court did not accept his pleas. It also rejected the Public Prosecution's request in a counter-appeal to apply an aggravating premeditated circumstance, and sentenced to life imprisonment and deportation.
