United States: Former Cardinal McCarrick indicted for sexual assault

For the first time, a former cardinal is charged with sex crimes.
Theodore McCarrick is accused of sexually assaulting a minor and will have to appear before a judge in Massachusetts next September.

He was defrocked by Pope Francis in 2019. Theodore McCarrick will now face justice.
The former cardinal is accused of indecent assault and sexual crime on a minor.
Facts which would have taken place in 1974. The victim, now an adult, was 16 years old at the time.
The man assures that Theodore McCarrick would have assaulted him during a wedding ceremony, but also several times after that.
Lawyer Mitchel Garabedian, a figure in pedophilia cases against the church, hails a victory for all of Theodore McCarrick's alleged victims.

Ignored reports
The former cardinal was defrocked after a Vatican investigation revealed he was a sexual predator and reports about him had been ignored for decades.
Now 91, Theodore McCarrick lives in a church-run center specializing in disorders, including sexual disorders.
