Hessen is preparing to return unneeded corona vaccine from the manufacturer Astrazeneca to the federal government.

It is foreseeable that a large part of this vaccine will not be used in the Hessian vaccination centers, said a spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior in Wiesbaden on Friday at the dpa request.

First of all, the 28 vaccination centers are asked to return any vaccine that is not required to the country.

These are between 100,000 and 120,000 cans from Astrazeneca.

Together with the around 70,000 vaccine doses from Astrazeneca that are still in the state warehouse, the product is to be returned as soon as the federal government gives its approval.

Then they could be donated to third countries.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, they can be stored for up to six months at two to eight degrees Celsius.

The earliest expiry date for the Hessian holdings is October 1, 2021.

Infection incidence stagnates

Before the weekend, there was mixed news about the corona infection in Hesse. Health authorities have reported a few fewer new cases to the Robert Koch Institute than they did last Friday. The central indicator is only dropping slightly in Hesse, and the same applies to its largest city, Frankfurt. The metropolis on the Main continues to rank above the threshold of 35 new infections among 100,000 inhabitants reported within a week.

If you want to visit a restaurant and dine inside, you need a negative test.

According to the requirements of the state, major events are only allowed up to 5000 visitors.

Eintracht Frankfurt can, however, hold its test match on Saturday in front of 10,000 fans, as the country has given way in a dispute with the city and club.

Eintracht sports director Markus Krösche advocates no longer using incidence alone as a yardstick.

He points to more than 60 percent first vaccinations and possible extensive tests.

When vaccinated below average

In terms of vaccination rates, however, Hesse is consistently below the federal average. That didn't change on Friday either. In terms of the proportion of those who have been vaccinated, the state is even losing ground again. Hessen has 50.6 percent, 0.9 points less than the average, while Rhineland-Palatinate has 52 percent. 3.894 million people in Hesse are vaccinated at least once, 3.18 million already have complete vaccination protection. According to the RKI, the numbers relate to the entire country's population. Hessen has a total of around 6.3 million inhabitants.

The centrally located federal state is also below the nationwide quota for initial vaccinations: According to the latest data, 61.2 percent of people in Hesse have received a first vaccination against the coronavirus.

Hessen is now 0.3 points below the national average.

The front runner is Bremen with 70.4 percent of the first vaccinated - Rhineland-Palatinate comes with 62.9.

From Monday onwards, the residence principle in the 28 vaccination centers will no longer apply.

Hessians can then get a preventive injection against Covid-19, wherever they like and wherever they can.

In Wiesbaden, for example, unlike in front of the Frankfurt Festhalle, there were no queues of vaccinees to be seen recently.

Resident doctors and staff have so far administered a good 2.52 million vaccinations, as the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians announced. Since the beginning of April, the general practitioners' practices in Hesse have also been vaccinated against Covid-19, a little later the specialist practices and, on June 7th, the company doctors were added.

Meanwhile, the municipalities are trying to further increase the vaccination rate with so-called low-threshold offers.

The district of Giessen is asking for “vaccination night” this Friday.

From 10 p.m. there will be music, light show, non-alcoholic cocktails and of course corona vaccinations.

The special party in the vaccination center in Heuchelheim should last until 3 a.m.

Pre-registration is not necessary.

The drinks are free for visitors, but a donation box will be set up for the benefit of the flood victims.

In addition, the district sends mobile vaccination teams to the district communities, for example to the parking spaces of supermarkets.

A vaccination bus is touring in the Main-Kinzig district under the motto "Your plaster".

A special vaccination campaign for people over the age of 16 starts this Wednesday in Frankfurt, and has been running in Marburg since Tuesday.

Hessen incidence drops by 0.2 percentage points

According to the Robert Koch Institute, health authorities in the country reported 186 new positive PCR tests overnight, six fewer than a week ago. A month ago it was only 59. Since the pandemic began in March of last year, 294,587 people in Hesse have officially been infected with a variant of the corona virus. Most recently, a good 2000 of them were not yet cured.

The RKI recorded four more deaths, all in all 7585 in Hesse in connection with Covid-19. According to data from the Divi Register on Thursday, 37 people with Covid 19 disease were treated in the intensive care units in the state, two fewer than last. Twelve of them had to be ventilated invasively, one more than on Thursday. 68 patients on normal wards after 49 a week ago and 59 suspected cases are added, as the Ministry of Social Affairs informs the FAZ. Divi stands for German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine.

In terms of incidence, Frankfurt is still at the top with 35.4 after 37.1 the previous day. The district of Fulda follows with just under 28, ahead of the district of Groß-Gerau with 27. A clean slate has no region. The Hersfeld-Rotenburg district continues to perform best with 0.8. Only seven of the 26 major cities and regions have a single-digit incidence. The Hessen incidence is 18.5 after 18.7. The federal average is 17.
