This weekend is the traditional crossover between Julyists and Aoutiens.

On the road, in stations and airports, you will have to take your pain patiently before seeing the sea, for the lucky ones, or going home, for those whose holidays are already over.

It's the busiest weekend of the year, warns Bison Futé.

Patience and prudence will be the watchwords on the vacation route.

Friday indeed begins the traditional crossover of the summer, the juillettists return and the Augustans leave.

Consequence: there will be people everywhere, on the road, in stations and in airports.

Highways classified as black by Bison Futé

The milestone of 1,000 kilometers of cumulative traffic jams already reached on Saturdays in July should be crossed again this Saturday.

For the first time this summer, the day is classified black in the direction of departures.

And from Friday, it will be orange at the national level, in both directions.

If you can, leave Ile-de-France before midday!

Among the overloaded axes, the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange, then towards the Mediterranean, but also the A10 towards the west and southwest of the country until the early evening.

Even Sunday, there will be people on the roads: the day is classified orange in both directions of traffic.

Patience, therefore, and vigilance also: after successive confinements, 43% of French people say they are more tired than last year.

And drowsiness remains the leading cause of highway mortality.

Crowded stations all weekend

If you choose to take the train, you may also run into people at the stations.

Nearly a million people are expected between Friday and Sunday at the station.

More than two thirds will travel by TGV.

We even find the levels of a normal summer.

There will be 6% more passengers this weekend than on the same weekend of 2019. The flagship destinations are quite traditional: Paris-Bordeaux, Paris-Lyon, Paris-Nantes, Paris-Marseille and Paris-Rennes .

No need to present a health pass for the moment, the measure will only apply from August 9.

Airports a little more shunned

At the airports, the weekend promises to be busy as well.

With one detail: we have not yet found the levels before the coronavirus crisis.

Air France is expecting 80,000 passengers per day at Roissy, 22,000 at Orly for this weekend.

For comparison, in 2019, there were just over 100,000 passengers per day at Roissy.

For Transavia, Air France's low cost, the season is looking a little better. Thanks to a phenomenon: last minute shopping. The company expects to finish at 90% filling in the direction of departures for this weekend since it sold 1,500 tickets on Wednesday alone. That's 65% more than what happened on the same Wednesday, just before the same weekend in 2019. And the most popular destination this year is Portugal.
