EU to consider sanctions against Belarus due to migrants in Lithuania

“The EU and its member states will respond to the ongoing spike in illegal border crossings from Belarus to ensure the integrity of our external border,” EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in a statement.

The EU will consider the possibility of introducing restrictive measures against migrant carriers.

It will also consider measures against other persons involved in the illegal transport of people across the border.

Earlier, a protest action was held in Vilnius against the placement of migrants in the city of Devaniškės on the border of Lithuania and Belarus.
