Faced with "very worrying" contamination figures, the prefect of Haute-Savoie decided on Thursday to impose the return of the wearing of masks outdoors in the towns and gathering places of the department.

From Thursday until August 31, specifies the press release from the prefecture, wearing a mask is once again compulsory in municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants, in those located on the shores of lakes (Annecy and Léman) and in the most touristic towns.

In the absence of a municipal decree specifying where these provisions are valid within the municipality, this new health rule applies throughout its urbanized territory.

This obligation, which applies to over 11s, is also valid, throughout Haute-Savoie, for gatherings of more than 10 people, markets and flea markets and queues of stadiums, venues. of shows, stations, cafes and restaurants.

The consumption of alcohol in the street and in parks is prohibited in the municipalities concerned by the obligation to wear a mask.

The prefecture puts forward an incidence rate of 220 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, against 46 on July 19, "an increase of more than 370% in 10 days" to justify "measures proportionate and adapted to the local situation".

According to data from Public Health France analyzed by the CovidTracker site, the incidence rate rose to 790 among 20-29 year olds in the department over the last week.

Eleven patients with Covid-19 are in intensive care in hospitals in the department, and hospitalizations, so far at a very low level, have been on the rise for a few days.

Many prefectures in coastal areas have taken similar measures in the face of an increase in the number of positive cases, a particularly visible increase in these tourist areas.
