On Monday afternoon a week ago, the police had to break into a hot car in Växjö where the dog had been left locked up for about an hour.

A report of animal cruelty has been made, something for which the owner of the dog will have to be held accountable.

Ola Severinsson, police commissioner in Växjö, says that incoming alarms about dogs trapped in hot cars are common during the summer months.

- We save dogs from hot cars almost every day.

Crime to break the window

According to the law, the police can break into the car, and you as a private person can smash a car window if it is an emergency like this.

One piece of advice from Ola Severinsson is that you should first contact the police before smashing a car window.

- The person who has broken the window is responsible for having broken the window.

It is a crime in itself, but if you can invoke distress, you will be punished for the crime you have committed.
