Iran’s Supreme Leader: The United States and other Western countries are not credible in the Iran nuclear negotiations

Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, July 28 (Reporter Wang Shoubao Gao Wencheng) Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei said on the 28th that the United States and other Western countries are not credible in the Iran nuclear negotiations.

As long as there is a chance, they will harm other countries.

Khamenei said at a meeting with Iranian President Rouhani and other government members that in the recent Iranian nuclear negotiations, the United States insisted on its stubborn position and did not take a step forward.

He said that the United States has promised to lift sanctions on Iran, but in fact it has not and will not honor its promise. The United States also requires that new content be added to the existing agreement.

Khamenei said that the United States and other Western countries have violated their promises in the previous agreement and do not guarantee that they will keep their promises in the future.

The Iranian government should not rely on the West for domestic affairs, otherwise it will fail.

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to restrict its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.

Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of certain provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement, but promised that the measures taken are "reversible."

On April 6 this year, the relevant parties to the Iranian nuclear agreement began to hold talks in Vienna to discuss the issue of the United States and Iran resuming compliance.
