The Ministry of the Interior, through the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions, has ordered the transfer of the Basque woman from San Sebastián from the Asturias prison to
Miren Itxaso Zaldúa Iriberri
, alias
'Sahatsa'
, in preventive detention since July 22 of 2020 and prosecuted for the assassination of the president of the PP of Aragon
Manuel Giménez Abad
in 2001 in Zaragoza.
This is a new transfer of this inmate, who on April 16 was taken from the Topas prison (Salamanca) to Asturias.
Zaldúa Iriberri is also on trial for the attack committed by the terrorist group ETA in 2002 in Leiza (Navarra), in which a civil guard died and three others were injured.
As reported by the Ministry led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska in a press release, another four ETA prisoners have also been ordered to be transferred to prisons in the Basque Country, Navarra and La Rioja.
They are
Jesús María Altable Echarte
,
Egoitz Coto Etxeandía
,
Aitor Olaizola Baseta
and
Iurgi Garigagoitia
.
Altable Echarte has been transferred from Soria to Pamplona;
Coto Etxeandía, from Cantabria to Bilbao;
Olaizola Baseta, from Logroño to Álava;
and Iurgi Garigagoitia Salegui, from Madrid to Logroño.
Three to Basque and Navarrese prisons
Jesús María Altable
entered prison on November 20, 1999 and was sentenced to 49 years for the murder of a captain of the Civil Guard in 1984 in Pamplona.
In December 2020 he was already taken from the Castellón prison to the Soria prison.
He served three-quarters of his sentence in May 2017.
As for
Egoitz Coto, he
entered prison on November 26, 2002 and was sentenced to 22 years for an attack with Molotov cocktails on an Ertzaintza patrol in Portugalete (Vizcaya) in 2001, in which two officers were injured.
He served three-quarters of his sentence in November 2017.
For his part,
Aitor Olaizaola
entered prison on March 30, 2001 and was sentenced to 75 years in prison for the car bomb attack in 2001 near a hotel in Roses (Gerona) in which a
mosso d ' Esquadra
and a local policeman and a French citizen were injured.
He will serve three-quarters of the sentence in September 2023.
The murderer of Uría in Logroño
Finally, the transfer of
Iurgi Garitagoitia Salegui
from the Penitentiary Center of Soto del Real (Madrid) to that of Logroño
has been arranged
. Garitagoiti entered prison on November 16, 2020, handed over by France and was sentenced to 389 years in prison for 25 crimes of attempted terrorist murders by participating in the placement of three explosive devices next to a telephone repeater in Hernani (Guipúzcoa ).
The first exploded at around one o'clock in the morning on January 16, 2009 and the other two were deactivated by the
ertzainas
who came to the scene.
He was also sentenced to 44 years in prison for the murder of businessman
Ignacio Uría
in 2008 in Azpeitia (Guipúzcoa) in an ETA campaign against the construction of the AVE high-speed train.
He will serve three-quarters of the sentence in January 2034.
The four prisoners accept prison law, reject the use of violence and have expressed their desire to lessen the pain caused to the victims of their crimes, according to the Interior Ministry.
"We victims feel humiliated"
In a statement, the
Victims of Terrorism Association
(
AVT
) regrets that "once the government has annihilated the policy of dispersion, even bringing ETA members closer who have never shown an iota of repentance and even some of them have declared that they would return to guns to kill. "
"The victims feel humiliated by these decisions that are only aimed at satisfying Bildu as a partner of the Government," he adds.
And he emphasizes: Bildu is "a political formation for which the AVT has requested its banning with more than 200 indications, which we consider illegal and which continues to justify some crimes of these terrorists who do not hesitate to give an ovation when they are released from prison."
