While intervening in a dispute, a police officer was injured Tuesday evening in Bayonne.

The police went to a man's home for violence and wanted to arrest him when the latter tried to flee.

Already at the wheel of his car, he took off with a bang and struck one of the officials present on the spot.

Faced with the refusal to comply, the police then used their weapons.

The injured policeman was hospitalized, without his life being in danger.

His attacker was also hit during the operation and taken care of by the emergency services.

The Bayonne public prosecutor's office explained that it was "acts of attempted homicide on a person holding public authority which motivated the use of their service weapon by police officers".

A dozen shots were fired by officials according to France Bleu.

The 33-year-old man was known for domestic violence.
