- That's right, they should have landed at 14:30.

The plan is being moved there because we see that there is a great risk of fires in the area, says Johan Öberg, press communicator at Saab.

It was after the major forest fires in Sweden in 2018 that the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB, procured four firefighting aircraft.

Normally, they are stationed at Skavsta Airport outside Nyköping and operated by Saab.

On Monday, about 25 fire alarms were received in Västerbotten and the warm weather continues for a few more days.

SMHI warns of risk of forest fires both along the coast and inland right now.

Will monitor northern Sweden

- They will monitor northern Sweden, but will also be able to assist other EU countries, such as Finland, if necessary.

It is possible to move them faster than helicopters over long distances, says Johan Öberg.

Unlike helicopters, however, firefighting aircraft need lakes when they are to scoop up water.

Helicopters can fetch water even in smaller watercourses.

The firefighting aircraft, which is of the type AT-802 Fire Boss, will complement the rescue service on the ground and the water-bombing helicopters that already exist.
