For the past 10 years, the meat producer Kjell Nilsson has been conducting KRAV-certified animal husbandry at Selets mill farm in Luleå.

He would like to see more farmers choose to become KRAV-certified.

- It is a very sad development.

If more people in Norrbotten chose to become KRAV producers, the slaughterhouse in Luleå would also start with KRAV slaughter.

If the slaughterhouse can not slaughter according to KRAV's regulations, we must not use KRAV's logo on our packages, he says.

"I think we get completely different numbers when younger people take over"

Last year, 7 percent of cows and sheep in Norrbotten were KRAV-certified, which can be compared with the country as a whole, where the figure was 17 percent.

When it comes to fields and pastures in the county, only 5 percent was used for organic farming, while the figure for the whole country was 16 percent.

Overall, this places Norrbotten in last place out of the country's 21 counties, according to KRAV's sustainability ranking.

- I think we get completely different numbers when the younger generation takes over the farms in Norrbotten, says meat producer Kjell Nilsson.

What does it mean to be KRAV-certified?

- If you have a herd of meat, as in our case, you must have them grazing.

We also have solar panels to live up to this with renewable electricity.

It is also an economic issue, says Nilsson.

"Food on the terms of nature and animals is important"

KRAV-certified agriculture is always organic, which means that farmers are not allowed to use chemical pesticides or fertilizers.

This in turn contributes to increased biodiversity.

In addition, far-reaching requirements are placed on outdoor activities for the animals and good animal care.

What is so good about being KRAV certified?

- They try to run an agriculture, production of food on the terms of nature and animals and that is important, says meat producer Nilsson.

In the clip, meat producer Kjell Nilsson tells what he thinks about the fact that there are so few KRAV-certified farmers in Norrbotten.
