At Billbäck's nursery in Svärtinge outside Norrköping, the trees that will replace Östra promenade's ancient avenues have been taken care of for almost twenty years.

Claerens Jacobsen has worked with the project ever since it started in the early 2000s.

The new linden trees originate in two trees that stand on the North promenade.

- It is shoots, or eyes, that were taken on the linden trees about twenty years ago.

And we have grown them in different batches, replanted them and replanted them, says Claerens Jacobsen, gardener at Billbäck's nursery.

The current trees along the Eastern promenade have long been negatively affected by the changes that have taken place on the promenade, and among other things, wires in the ground mean that the roots of the linden trees do not have enough space.

Some trees are also affected by black rot.

But Claerens Jacobsen believes that the new lindens will cope with the conditions better.

- When you replant trees, they feel a little worse, but gradually I know that they will come in good soil and then be able to develop there.

So they will feel as good there as they have done here.

Expected to be completed in 2023

In connection with the replacement of the trees on the Eastern promenade, streets and pipes will also be rebuilt.

Large parts of the promenade will therefore be closed in the meantime, which will have a major impact on accessibility.

Only during the summer of 2023 are the renovations expected to be completed.

One of the reasons why they choose to start transplanting the lindens just this autumn is that the trees at the nursery in Svärtinge are getting too big to be moved.

Right now, each linden tree weighs about two tons and usually Claerens Jacobsen usually makes sure to replant the trees earlier.

- That is probably an exception.

But what do you not do when you want to help and realize an exciting story.
