According to a media report, the Federal Ministry of Health is planning a significant expansion of the test requirement for travelers returning home. As the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe report, Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wants to oblige travelers in the future to submit a negative corona test when they enter Germany - regardless of the areas from which and with which means of transport they come to Germany. So far, the obligation to test applies to air passengers and travelers from high-risk areas who are not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus or who have not recovered from Covid-19 disease.

A spokeswoman for the ministry said the government is voting on tightening the corona travel requirements.

According to the report, Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) has so far resisted Spahn's plans in the cabinet.

She therefore considers the comprehensive test obligation to be disproportionate.

As the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin reported last week, about every tenth reported corona infection took place abroad.

The experts reported an "increasing role of travel-related cases in the current infection rate".
