We have also had a crisis supporter who can actually take calls for those who feel extra great anxiety, says Roger Vidén who is acting head of the prison service in Gävle.

Double coating

Gävleanstalten has a lower security rating than Hällbyanstalten, but here as in the rest of the country, inmates and staff need to handle some overcrowding. 

- We currently have 26 double occupancy cells to meet the need for places before the prison service expands. So we hope we get out of this situation as soon as possible, says Roger Vidén.
